I have been involved in successfully hiring, training, managing and mentoring key staff in the food industry for many years and can use my wealth of experience to guide staff to new levels of performance.

Having been on both sides of the negotiation table in multi-national and state head office situations and meetings, I can assess your performance in this area and guide you to achieve a successful outcome.


Russell Markham

Russell Markham is well known in the SA Food Industry having started his career in food retail and advancing to become a manager of both major chain and independent supermarkets.

Executive positions in sales and account management followed with blue chip national companies Arnott’s and Tip Top these requiring expertise in sales, marketing, forecasting, event management and logistics. Many years were spent dealing with Coles, Woolworths, Bi-lo and other major Independent retailers at state and national level.

Russell was then the National Business manager for Bedford Industries in the not for profit sector and managed national accounts Bunnings, K-Mart, Big W and Aldi in the outdoor furniture, garden and RTA furniture markets. He also managed their export business to customers in Spain, the UK and Belgium.

His experience and expertise led him to be appointed to the high profile position of Chief Executive for the SA Foodland supermarket group from 2006 to 2014.

Working diligently with a dynamic board plus retailers, stakeholders, suppliers and industry and government the Foodland group continued to gain market share. Hosting numerous interstate and overseas study trips helped to keep up with changes and the latest consumer trends in the food sector.

Russell has been on the judging panel for The South Australian Food Industry Awards Program for the last six years visiting many of our iconic SA Food manufacturers in the process. Russell is an authority on the food industry both in manufacturing and retail and will use his experience and knowledge to identify and develop strategies to grow the bottom line.

The chief executive of the self-proclaimed “Mighty South Aussies” might keep a low profile but he leads a group of 115 independent supermarkets that take it right up to the two national retail giants in this state. He has successfully pushed the group’s “local first” message, with greater support for SA growers and manufacturers and fundraising for community groups.
